Bug Description

Hi :)

It seems that the dynamically-linked skype package (or, perhaps more accurately, the qt binaries which come from the main Ubuntu repos?) is/are missing jpeg support. Following a suggestion I found here (http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=113138) I switched to the skype-static package, which solves this problem, but seems like it might have some unicode support issues. I am unable to paste unicode characters into the text-chat window (all such characters are escaped to \uXXXX).

I guess it might not be possible to fix the lack of jpeg support with the dynamically-linked version (although if it is it would be good, of course), but I suspect that the static version could be fixed to avoid the escaping problem.

If someone were able to look into this I, and perhaps others, would be grateful.

Thanks,

Simon

Hi,

Thanks for your bug report.

Have you been able to test on a more recent version of skype? In jaunty and karmic, we added some hacks to skype 2.1.0.47 for avatar support on amd64, maybe it solved you issue... About your encoding issue wrt skype-static, I'm afraid there's nothing we can do, it's probably the way they compiled it.

Hiya :)

I'm using the dynamically-linked version now on Karmic. Everything seems fine. I am having a slight problem with the way it interacts with iBus, but I suspect this is an iBus problem, as I've been having a few other difficulties with iBus too, and am about to give up and go back to SCIM.

Thanks!
