Bug Description

Since 4.3 Beta 1 KDE supports WICD as an alternative for Network-Manager as a backend and I believe this also means it is supported by the plasma-widget. Therefor the dependencies should be changed in a way that the plasma widget is not removed when WICD is installed.

The widget is called network manager because the underlying component is called network manager. While I see how the name could make you believe that it was a generic network manager, it is really not. And it only gets removed because networkmanager and wicd are conflicting with each other, so if the former gets removed because you install the latter the plasmoid will be removed as well (due to broken dependency chain).

However, I think it probably would make sense to make the widget independent from networkmanager, no clue if that is possible, but technically that is what solid is for, so the widget should only be talking to solid and solid should worry about the backend. Anyway, it currently does only work with networkmanager, so changing the deps wouldn't make it work anyway :)

Sorry, that we can't do anything here, though you might want to get in touch with the KDE developers working on the widget and push them towards making it networkmanager-independent.
