Bug Description
We've stepped into a critical problem for the gnome desktop. Gnome-panel keeps on crashing if the user opened a folder with a name containing the '&' symbol in its name so that it is written in the file ~/.recently-used.
The folder was created by a linux user (running Ubuntu Hoary 5.10) on a nfs share in our network. The cause could be related to a text encoding issue but gnome-panel could send a warning instead of crashing and setting the desktop in a totally unusable state.
In the file ~/.xsession-errors this issue was tracked
Steps to reproduce the problem:
1 - Create a folder eith name 'Folder & Crash'
2 - Copy a file in that folder (we used an OOo file)
3 - Open the file with proper application
Thanks for your bug. The crasher is fixed with dapper (gnome-panel should ignore the recently-used instead of crashing), that's a duplicate of bug #18759
The openoffice issue is bug #24327 and fixed with dapper too
