I have a Dell Latitude E6400 laptop.
The noise is also present if the speaker are muted.

As requested in https:/ /lists. ubuntu. com/archives/ ubuntu- devel/2009- July/028606. html, I installed the test kernel on a Dell Latitude E6400 (Codec: IDT 92HD71B7X).
The popping sound seems to be gone with that kernel.
