Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

this is the first time i am using the bugreporting system. i assume a bugreport has already been automatically sent. after the ubuntu 9.04 installaltion process crashed, the live-cd version came up asking if a bugreport should be sent. when i clicked 'send' it did something and then came up with this launchpad.net page.

i have been having this problem with ubuntu 8.04 also. i installed it successfully 6 months back. when i had to do it again the installation crashed at the 'importing documents and settings' stage. no hardware has been added or removed from the computer. however, there are now more than 32 partitions over 2 harddisks.

i have tried a couple of things. i installed grub to the partitionbootrecord instead of the mbr using 'chainloader +1' in menu.lst( this solved some trouble i was having with a debian 5.0.1 installation).. i also preformatted the installation partition with the mkfs option '-I 128' incase the 128-256 bit inode was an issue. neither attempt succeeded.

here are the log files user.log, syslog and partman as an attachment
