Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect -p alsa-base 381216

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Thanks in advance!

Dear Mr Brain,

I have now changed the operating system to Jaunty Jackalope desktop
version from the previous AMD64 version. The audio problem remains.
Should I continue with your instructions or is there any change i need
to make ?

Waiting to hear from you.

I use an AMD64 Athalon X2 computer.

1. Would it be better to switch back ?
2. What is the advantage ?
3. How can I get technical advise on Ubuntu, being new to this OS.
4. Where can I send my Queries ?
5. How do i efficiently manage a firewall/ Anti virus scanner.

While writing this letter the screen (evolution screen) got darkened and
mentioned that evolution is not responding.( without closing the page, i
reopened evolution from the desktop and am writing this letter. Hope I
will be able to send this letter. Looking forward to a response.

Thanks

All of these questions would be more appropriate at
