Double Power Icons

I have a double power icon in the top panal. One is a bigger more graphic looking one and supports hibernate, suspend & preferences when clicked on. The other only shows a pop down text of the power status and does nothing else. Both change when power source changes.

Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'gnome-desktop'; however, that package was not published in Ubuntu.

then, literally as I was posting the larger one disappeared. Only to reappear when I pulled the plug.
