Graphics card issues on dell mini inspiron 1210

I installed ubuntu 9.04 on my dell inspiron 1210 mini. The best resolution I can get is 1024x768 and the graphics are very slow and jumpy especially when using the internet. I am not real familiar with linux, but it appears like there is no driver for the graphics display. I really want to get off of windows, but this situation makes using ubuntu almost unusable because of the jumpiness and slowness of the display.

I just noticed this was an Intel GMA 500 (Poulsbo). There hasn't been a video driver in Ubuntu for this GPU chip since Hardy. you can try this one from a PPA: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mobile/+archive/ppa/+sourcepub/613888/+listing-archive-extra
