Bug Description
Binary package hint: vlc
I updated the official vlc 0.9.9 from Ubuntu Jaunty repositories with vlc_1.0.
(See: http://
Before the update the vlc-nox package (and a few other vlc packages - pluguins, vlc-plugin-esd 0.9.9a-2ubuntu1 for example) was installed with vlc 0.9.9 release. I didn't noticed any conflicts with these two packages and the vlc 0.9.9 version.
THE PROBLEMS/BUGS NOTICED DURING UPDATE VLC from version 0.9.9 to 1.0.0 rc1:
1. When trying to update the current vlc 0.9.9 installation the following bug appeared:
"E: /var/cache/
Although the bug appeared, I managed to install the vlc 1.0.0 rc1 version via Synaptic.
This bug may appear only if the vlc-nox package have already been installed with 0.9.9 version.
It's not hard to fix it in the new installer.
2. During installation I was forced to install the oldish (20070626-1, 14.3 MB of disc space) videolan-doc package, which I didn't need with the previous vlc version.
I think this dependency should be removed or the documentation file should be updated and installed only on demand.
3. The vlc-plugin-esd 0.9.9a-2ubuntu1 (jaunty) is not compatible with the vlc_1.0.
Is this oldish plugin useful nowadays?
IMHO, these 3 minor bugs should be fixed before the vlc 1.0.0 release.

_1.0.0~ rc1+20090516- 0ubuntu1~ kow2 looks like some unofficial (PPA?) version. This is not an Ubuntu bug...
