After I installed 9.04 I still had the old version. How do I get rid of it w/o starting with an empty hard drive?

Bug Description
I insert a dvd, it prompts me to open movie player which I click. Movie player appears and immediately disappears.
I also tried to open movie player from applications, it turns b/w??
