Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

totem does not disable the dpms, so the display goes black after a while.

this is new (and affects other mediaplayers) and did not happen before (jaunty, intrepid). a workaround is to set dpms off using:

> xset -dpms

yes, this is reproducible. just watching a movie will (after the timeperiod for putting the display to sleep as in power management preferences) trigger a dpms off of the monitor.

note, that the screensaver is disabled (tested by setting 15 min dpms timeout and 10 min screensaver). mplayer, which is more verbose, tells, that it disables screensaver, but the monitor will nevertheless go off.

just guessing, it may be not totem's but gnome-screensaver's fault (2.24.0-0ubuntu6).

(btw: this is a karmic fully updated from 20th may 09)

could you try if that's still an issue in current karmic?
