Printer shows 'may not be connected' then prints after long delay

Bug Description
If I print a file, the print icon shows 'printer may not be connected' then after a long delay, depending on what appears to be the complexity or size of the file, it prints.
I started noticing this after I upgraded to Jaunty. It seems to happen most with PDFs.
