Bug Description

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

Hello,

I'm using stock Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.21 in Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope (plus all online updates as of May 18, 2009).
I've installed the following Thunderbird Extensions, directly from the Thunderbird repository: ImportExportTools and MoreFunctionsforAB.

I am using Romanian language; Thunderbird is set to send e-mail in UTF-8 by default (Preferences -> Display -> Fonts -> both drop-down lists).

Thunderbird performs normally (send/receive) but there are a few quirks:

- I cannot set/create the vCard file attached to messages as signature (Account Settings): pressing "Edit Card" button shows nothing;
- I can neither insert new contacts in Personal Address Book, nor edit old/imported ones. Creating a new address book leads to nothing (I am able to create it, but I cannot insert contacts);
- sometimes I get "Bad header" returns from my mailserver (which runs amavisd-new on Fedora); it seems it doesn't like the way read receipts are encoded.

I suspect an encoding issue here.

Running the same version of Thunderbird, with same extensions and same setup in Fedora 10/11 or Windows works OK.

FYI, the main characters specific to Romanian language are (Unicode UTF-8): 0218, 0219, 021A, 021B. „Terminal” font is usually used on Romanian-configured systems, for both X11 and console.

Best regards,
Răzvan

Does it work if you disable the extensions? Did it work before you
installed them? When you say "Thunderbird Extensions, directly from the
Thunderbird repository" where do you mean?

The described facts are the same even if I totally uninstall the extensions.
When I said "Thunderbird extensions repository", I've meant:

https://addons.mozilla.org/ro/thunderbird/

The present testing machine is amd64, but the bugs also occured on another system, i386.

When sending messages, recipients addreses *are* entered automatically in the AddresBook, but I cannot edit them or manually add others. The error message is the one above.

They are not the same bug.
Uninstalling the extensions may not be enough since a lot of times removing them doesnt remove the .xpi. Please remova all and start a new profile. This is not a thunderbird issue but it is an extension issue.
I'm closng this bug at this time.

Please dont move bugs to in progress unless you are fixing it.
Also dont move bugs back to new or they are likely to get lost.

I also had the problem that Lightning, even if it installed succesfully (from https://addons.mozilla.org/ro/thunderbird/), won't allow me to import any calendar (.ics file): the Import Calendar button was grayed out. The solution we empirically found was:

- uninstall Lightning
- sudo apt-get install libstdc++5
- reinstall Lightning

Sorry, I see now this was reported against version 2. Version 2 never had an official Romanian translation, so I suppose that got in in another way, so it could still be fixed in here.

This is present in the Karmic version too.
Alexandru Szasz says this is fixed upstream.

Shouldn't Ubuntu sync thunderbird with upstream in this cycle?
