Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

SWFdec player is installed but does not work in firefox.

Ubuntu 9.04 Firefox 3.0.10

Expected to happen on website: when using SWFdec (comes with Synaptic) lots of websites should play their contents.
Instead nothing is played at all. When right-clicking with the mouse on the video (or anything else that should play) a pop-up shows that the video is playing. But nothing happens.

Could you please post a URL that is not working?

Many bad Firefox behaviors are in fact caused by one of the many third-party 'themes', 'extensions' and 'plugins'. These will go away with a new profile - that is, when Firefox is restored to default settings and without any extensions and themes. You do not need to delete your old profile to test.
Can you try with a new profile?

Also, do you have any other flash players installed?

Changed in firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete
summary: - swfdec
+ swfdec not playing flash videos
affects: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu) → swfdec-mozilla (Ubuntu)

Macromedia Flash plugin is the other flash plugin I have installed. I will have a more detailed look later regarding the new profile. In the meantime I have switched off the installed add-ons.

As a matter of fact, in Ubuntu 8.10 with the then most recent version of Firefox I did not have these problems.

After looking into https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs?action=show&redirect=DebuggingFirefox#Try%20with%20a%20new%20profile and renaming my old and creating a new profile, when trying to use a web page using swf I get this message from my terminal screen:

SWFDEC: ERROR: swfdec_as_interpret.c(710): swfdec_action_set_property: calling GetProperty not on a movieclip object

This would mean that the movieclips are not movieclips at all and that they can not be opened at any time when using Ubuntu/Firefox, right? I have tried other flash players but they don't open the content either. In this case, a brochure should have opened. See also http://folder.xenos.nl/ and http://www.hema.nl/nl-NL/nieuws/brochure.aspx. Or is there another flash player that does work available?

When right-clicking on the to be played item I get the message that the player is playing and that the sound is on. When I click on the information button I get the pop-up as can be seen in the enclosed attachment.
