Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

I am using Ubuntu 9.04 X64 fully patched

I use google calendar with evolution: if i setup a reminder (notify me 15 minutes before) during the sync process the alarm is not passed. The behaviour is the same if i insert an appointment using evolution or using the web.

I don't know if is useful, but under thunderbird with calendar addition everything works like expected.

Hello,
yes, is reproducible.

1. You should have a google calendar on google.com
2. Under evolution, go to calendar section then create "new calendar" (google type). Fill everything.
3. Select it and all your appointments will be in the right place under evolution, but without alarm reminder. (in other words during the transfer the start time, the end time, the description and optional note are correctly synced, but you loose the reminder (notify me 15 minutes before)

Sorry for poor english .... haver a great day

This is a problem for me as well. Ubuntu 9.04, Evolution 2.26.1.

Add a Google Calendar by any method (google, web, or CalDAV, though I find that CalDAV works the best overall, see bug 183846). Create an event in google's web interface. Once it syncs down to evolution there is no way to have a local alarm for it.

I'm actually not so sure if the alarm set in Google should sync down, as Roberto suggests -- this can be a problem for meetings, etc, with multiple invitees. Not everybody wants to be subject to the alarm set by the creator of the event (there was a long conversation about this somewhere for sunbird). But with no local alarm whatsoever I am missing meetings left and right.

In Apple iCal you can set a local alarm on a synced event, which is what I think Evolution should ideally allow for. Right now the "Alarm" button is disabled for events not created directly in evolution.

Slight modification to my previous comment -- after fixing the infamous password issue the behavior is slightly, though not substantially, different.

Google calendar synced with CalDAV.

1. Create event in Google web interface, set a "popup" alarm. When event syncs to Evo, the alarm actually does show up in the "Alarms" pane of the event detail. But no alarm ever occurs.

2. Create event in Google web interface. When event syncs to Evolution, add an alarm to it in Evolution (event detail > Alarms > Add). This is what I previously couldn't do, and I was excited for a minute. But it still didn't trigger an alarm.

3. Use Evolution to create an event on the Google calendar. Set an alarm in Evolution. Still no alarm occurs.

4. Create event on local "On this Computer > Personal" calendar. Set an alarm. This alarm goes off at the expected time.

What other info I can provide?

I'm having the same issues.
I'm just flat out missing appointments in Evolution that are on my google calendar.

I've gone through and even tried "editing" the appointment on Google and made sure there is a "Where" but still it doesn't show on my Evolution calendar.

Does anyone know how to "Force" evolution to Sync to Google?

TIA

The issue is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug the to the people writting the software (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME)

However, note that I have reported a more specific problem than those discussed here. As long as I add the Google calendar as webDav, alarm SETTINGS are actually syncing fine for me, in both directions (e.g. create event on google, set alarms, wait for sync, edit event on evo and see the same alarm settings). BUT the alarm never actually goes off locally. So that's what I've reported upstream.
