Could you please tell me your settings, sound card, whether or not you have the gstreamer plugins (good, bad, or ugly?). I haven't been able to reproduce this on my system. What were the exact steps you took to get these results? Did you install sound converter from the repo? Thank you

first and foremost thanks for your reply.
Settings: as per default. I chose to convert ogg -- mp3.
Sound card: Ati technologies inc. RV610 audio device (Radeon HD2400 PRO)
subsystem: PC partner limited device aa10.
I got it from repo, then I uninstalled it and downloaded from their site: no result. I uninstalled it and came back to repo. No result.
i have gstreamer plugins and also intltool.

I noticed that it doesn't have the necessary permission. However, I am able to run it using sudo or gksu. Of course, the file produced would be owned by root.

what shall I do to solve my problem? chmod 777? but which string should I write?

GautierPortet (kassoulet) wrote :

yes, try "chmod 777 THE_FILE_NAME". you can also try to change permission from the file browser, with rightclick->propertoes->permissions and set the permission to read/write.

Try typing the following command in a terminal:
gksu soundconverter

Soundconverter should run as superuser. Convert your files from there. Do not close the terminal while you are using soundconverter. See if that works.

Oh, it works, thanks!
I wonder whether there is a way to solve this problem once for ever, using chmod, for instance.
but what should I write?

I wouldn't know for sure. Others might have a better solution.

However, if you wish to run soundconverter in superuser mode every time you click on the menu through Application > Sound & Video > Sound Converter, you could edit the menu. Right click on the panel where the Application Menu is, and click Edit Menus. Find Sound Converter, click Properties, and add "gksu" in the command.
