Hi vms368,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Hello,

I've installed the recently updated ati-driver-installer-9-5-x86.x86_64.run and this problem is gone. Now, the screen turns-off as expected.

So, this problem was originated from the previous ATI drivers, instead from Ubuntu.

Indeed, as far as I know, Ubuntu 9.04 works like a Swiss clock and it is -finally- the default entry in my GRUB bootloader.

Regards,
Victor

I've posted a new version of the -fglrx driver to our xorg-edgers PPA,
would you mind testing it either on Jaunty or Karmic and see if it
resolves this bug?

Get fglrx 8.620 here:

Hi Bryce,
And Thanks for your reply with new fglrx.

But, as I said, I installed the updated ATI drivers from its website and the problem was solved. It seems
that it was not a Ubuntu problem.

Otherwise, some time later I had an unrecoverable crash waking up the laptop. I've filed a bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/390827).

Finally, I had to format the HD and re-install the OS. This time I've installed Kubuntu 9.04.

Kind Regards,
Victor Marin
