Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

On Ubuntu Intrepid I configured Russian keyboard layout called Diktor (it is made on the same principles as Dworak and it is a good idea to include it an standart layouts). And it was working well. But when I updated to Jaunty, xkb begin to bring up window with error on every boot and I can't see Diktor layout in gnome-keyboard-properties on layouns tab. It is also disappeared in among russian layouts when I try to add layout. My be this is xkb issue. I don't know. I attach my /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/ru file where Diktor layout is descriebed. Diktor layout <variant> tag in /etc/X11/xkb/base.xml seems to be ok, because when I revert gnome-keyboard-properties to standart settings (so only English layout remains) error on startup desappears.

I'm realy apologise, it's my mistake. I forget the folder, where base.lst file locate (I modificated it too on Intrepid to make Diktor layout work). And I thought that it is /etc/X11/xkb (because I was warned about my changes in base.xml files in this folder during update to Jaunty) As base.lst "disappear" from there I thought there is no need in it now. But now I find base.lst in it's original folder and added Diktor declaration in it and also in another *.lst and *.xml files wich are not symlinks to base.lst and base.xml files, I don't remember their names now, think you know which files I meen. Now everything is good about this.

But as I wasn't warned about my changes in base.lst file during update to Jaunty and this file was simply replaced, I think it is a bug in update process.

This looks like Flash bug. Flash is (was?) notoriously buggy with non-Ascii characters under Linux. So whoever chooses to verify the bug should try the latest and greatest Flash plugin first.

This is more of a question rather than a bug in xkeyboard-config.
I'll try to convert this to a question.

As an answer, I suggest to have a look at http://simos.info/blog/archives/1134
which shows which files you need to edit in order to add a custom layout, in Ubuntu 10.04.

Changed in xkeyboard-config (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid
