disk mount applet always shows an "cdrom1" device that doesn't exist.

Bug Description

My laptop has no internal cd drives. I use the disk mounter applet to manage an external USB drive and various flash drives (ipod, usb keychain, etc).

Everything works just fine, but there is an annoying "phantom" cdrom1 entry that never goes away. (This is distinct from the correct "External CD-RW Drive" entry for my hotplugged device)

I wasn't sure what logs would be helpful to attach, but let me know if I can provide any more information to help with troubleshooting.

Thanks for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? Does your /etc/fstab mention that cdrom?

This is Dapper Flight 6 (sorry, should have put that in my original bug).

The only removable drive in my fstab is /dev/scd0 -> /media/cdrom0

Some additional notes:
* my external CDROM hotplugs as /dev/scd0 -> /media/cdrom0.
* removing the cdrom0 entry from fstab fixed the problem.

Maybe only non-hotplugable cdrom drives should be automatically added to fstab?

Same bug happened on current Hardy for me.

A few days after installing Hardy alpha 4, the mysterious CD-ROM 1 appeared on the disk mount applet. Although I have a DVDRW device, which works perfectly and has a distinct icon.

I found out, that this icon is for scd0, that is (out of some reason) listed in fstab. My actual optical device is hda.

Removing the corresponding entry from fstab fixed the problem.
(Instead I preferred to change the entry from scd0 to hda.)
