Bug Description

I pressed Alt+F2, typed in "update-manager -d". Update-manager starts, update starts, but on operation (nearly "Calculating time remaining") it stopped with an error.

Then I tried to update from console:
sokolovss@sokolovss-laptop:~$ sudo su
[sudo] password for sokolovss:
root@sokolovss-laptop:/home/sokolovss# update-manager -d
extracting 'karmic.tar.gz'
authenticate 'karmic.tar.gz' against 'karmic.tar.gz.gpg'
/var/lib/python-support/python2.6/dbus/connection.py:242: DeprecationWarning: object.__init__() takes no parameters
  super(Connection, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs)
root@sokolovss-laptop:/home/sokolovss#

My OS is Ubuntu 9.04 amd64
Videocard: nVidia with 180.44 driver

In the attachement there is a screenshot of the error and 3 files, that installer adviced me to attach to the report if I will report a bug.

For me, upgrading to 9.10 alpha 1 make the computer unbootable: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/376273

Please wait for a more stable release.

I used to be a tester for all unstable versions of Ubuntu and some Kubuntu builds.

So, I'll try to install it from the alternate CD.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in update-manager.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

summary: - update to 9.10 alpha1 stopped unexpectevly

__assuming I drop to shell command line during boot (and "exit" cause kernel panic), How can I report the bug that dropped me to the proper developer, from the command line?

I've downloaded the *.iso image and burnt it to disc. I prepared for installation, but then remembered that I can update from disc directly.

So, this way works good and I updated to Ubuntu Karmic successfully. Then I had some problems with graphics, but I fixed them quickly - first I deleted all old packages (using system clean utility), then I update my system and then I installed nVidia driver.

Now everything works well.

Cleaning up. Is this still an issue in the most current stable release?
