Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

Media player classic (from the Real Alternative) will play this on a Win98SE machine.

Title of audio sample loads into title bar and an enquiry on properties gives the correct length but the progress indicator permanently displays 0:00/0:00 and there is no sound.

As the file type is not queried, I presume that totem should be able to play it.

Other properties given as AC-3 audio CODEC, Channels: Stereo, Sample rate: 48000 Hz and bitrate: 80kbps.

Any menus opened remain shown in the display pane unless a redraw is forced e.g. by minimising then restoring window.

PC is running a fresh installation of Ubuntu 9.04 from verified alternative CD. No other OS present.

Real video files (.ram) will play as will .rm audio files and other lower sample rate .ra files.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: amd64
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/totem-gstreamer
Package: totem-gstreamer 2.26.1-0ubuntu5
ProcEnviron:
 LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: totem
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-11-generic x86_64

 * Is this reproducible?
 * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
 * Could you add an example to the bug?

 This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

Thanks for the reply.

Refusal to play this file is consistent.

The status bar does indicate that the file is being played.

I could send you one of the files (1.9Mb) as an attachment, if you like, should your files with the same properties fail to show the problem.

I should stress that I haven't been able to play this file under any circumstances so I doubt there are any specific preconditions for the problem to manifest.

seems to be a gstreamer issue, gst-launch doesn't play the file either.

Hello Pedro,

Thanks for dropping in on this report.

I'm actually still using 10.10 but I can report that Media Player now plays the file.

I'd mark the bug as solved, however incidentally, but I cannot find a way to do this.

Cheers!

Tom
