Bug Description

Binary package hint: davfs2

1) Ubuntu Jaunty : deb http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty-updates main restricted
2) package davfs2 1.3.3-3ubuntu1
3) Trying to make a cp file /mnt/iDisk/Data/
4) The file is copied then disappear and is not present on the iDisk

more details :
I'm mounting my iDisk (suscribed to mobileme). I can read, I can create directories but when I try to write some file, the file appear for sometimes, but after a few moment the files disappear.

I tried with cadaver and it works.

May be to be noted: when I copy multiple files, the last I've copied are the first to disappear.

Same thing here on 8.04 LTS. Could someone investigate, because this is quite an issue for me at least, since my idisk is used as a backup drive.

I am having this issue as well. I can copy a file to the iDisk WebDAV share, and it seems to complete without errors and actually appears in the destination folder momentarily, but then disappears. There is no error and nothing in the logs that I could find.

This is with 8.04.3 LTS (hardy) and davfs2 1.2.1 connecting to idisk.mac.com over HTTPS.

At first I thought the problem was related to file size, but it doesn't seem to be the case. Large files take longer to complete (so the data definitely is being copied) but disappear just as quickly as small files do. If you want a very easy test, you can even just touch a new file and it will exist for a second or two, then disappear.

The problem is not on the iDisk/Apple side, because files uploaded via the web interface persist just fine.

It also helps if in the /etc/fstab file you add the following to the options column:
,uid=1000,gid=1000
(change them to your appropriate uid and gid; find them in your /etc/passwd file)

Also since I am behind a proxy server, I had to modify the /etc/davfs2/davfs2.conf file by uncommenting some lines:
 - set "use_proxy" to 1
 - define the variable "proxy" with the proxy server being used

Finally, I reconfigured davfs2 to allow unprivileged users to mount the idisk drive using:
% sudo dpkg-reconfigure davfs2 (then select "Yes")

Seems to work now for me.

I am running Ubuntu 10.04.

Thanks for the guidance!

I forgot to provide some context for how to update /etc/fstab to mount the idisk.

Below is the full line I added to /etc/fstab
https://idisk.mac.com/jrothim /mnt/idisk davfs rw,auto,user,uid=1000,gid=1000 0 0

To avoid repeatedly prompting for the password, you can also modify /etc/davfs2/secrets as follows. Just add the following line at the end of the secrets file:
https://idisk.mac.com/<username> <username> <password>

Thanks!
Jeff
