Bug Description

Binary package hint: acpi-support

When I boot my Thinkpad X200s on battery, the HDD spins down after some idle time. This behavior does NOT change when I plug the power in. Seems bad for the HDD. Please give instructions for further diagnosis, thanks.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help to improve Ubuntu.

Please post the output of the following command, for both the on-battery and on-AC cases:

  sudo hdparm -i /dev/sda | grep AdvancedPM=yes

How are you determining that the drive has spun down? With smartctl or some other tool?

Are you running the standard Ubuntu desktop (with gnome-power-manager running)?
