Bug Description
I have installed ubuntu desktop 9.04 in an 8GB usb memory stick formatted with one jfs partition.
I tried it in a 2GB Ram, 2GHz, Core 2 duo, notebook with intel 945 wireless
(see lshw at the end)
Off course I did not created a swap partition. However, it seems some swapping file is created anyway.
The system is too slow. I did not expected an amazing speed, but not so slow either.
After configuring the panel adding several applets, I used synaptic package to add some software I use (emacs,LaTeX,hugs, etc.)
When downloading packages the connection suddenly broke.
The icon showed the bars stair all in white, instead of the two monitor crossed.
I tried to reestablish the connection again manually, so I pressed the left button over the applet, the window did not popup, then I pressed the right button and observed that the menu lacks the Enable wireless option.
I logged off, in order to restart the connection, it did not work.
So I reboot the computer, then the connection worked again.
Then I opened synaptic continue to install the remaining packages, no errors were reported. I opened firefox, the connection failed again.
Showing again the signal strength bar stair in white, instead of the usual image with 2 terminals crossed indicating that wireless is not working.
I changed my modem of contact, turned it off and on again to reset connection, but did not work, it worked when I restarted with 8.10 so I am sure that the modem did not caused the problem.
Running from the CD, for short time I did not have any problem with wireless, but the session was too short, so I am not sure if it works fine in live session.
Here is lshw output:
