Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I was switching resolutions to test a website, and noticed my computer got sluggish everytime a new resolution is applied. The current workaround for me is to switch to /dev/tt1 (or any other terminal) and then get back to X.

DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/gnome-display-properties
NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx

 PATH=(custom, user)
 LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: gnome-control-center
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-11-generic i686

Thank you for your bug report, are you sure it's gnome-display-properties eating cpu and not xorg? do you get the issue using xrandr on the command line too?

Okay so actually, this is an ATI/Xorg issue. I disabled the proprietary driver, and it works fine, both with gnome-display and xrandr. Now, with the proprietary driver (that I just enabled again), even xrandr slows the computer to display, ran without arguments.

I've posted a new version of the -fglrx driver to our xorg-edgers PPA,
would you mind testing it either on Jaunty or Karmic and see if it
resolves this bug?

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.
