Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Occasionally, when playing songs by the same artist/band, Rhythmbox will skip the song currently playing and start the next song in line after playing for a short time. I'm not sure what is causing this.

Using Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope 9.04, package version 0.12.0-0ubuntu4.

What I expected to happen: For the track to play its full length then go to the next song in line.
What happened instead: Track plays for a short time then skips forward to the next song.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia
Package: rhythmbox 0.12.0-0ubuntu4
ProcEnviron:
 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: rhythmbox
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-11-generic i686

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions:

 * Is this reproducible?
 * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
 * Could you run rhythmbox --debug and see if there is any obvious error there?

 This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

This is not easily reproducible, as the bug happens at random. But, it happens more frequently with songs from the same artist/album. I also attached rhythmbox --debug, hope it helps.

Not confirming the bug there. The ubuntu team doesn't have the ressources to work on this specific issue but it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug the to the people writting the software (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME)

I have the same issue. I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop 64bit with Rhythmbox 0.12.5. I think the initial wording is a little confusing. Basically All of my audio files are on a NAS device and I play the files in Rhythmbox via Samba. Ex. smb//192.168.0.200/audio. When I play my play list it intermittently stops in the middle of a song, with a "Playback Error - icon", skips the next song and most times will play the new song and other time pause itself. This is highly annoying of course and is definitely a bug. I'm a network engineer and I exported the play-list and tested it with VLC and this problem did not occur, but VLC isn't close to Rhythmbox as an audio organizer/player. Of course Rhythmbox is the best audio app that I'm aware of and would love for this to work. Also to note it is not artist dependent. It seems to be a bug. I attempted to increase the Network buffer but this has no affect, I even enable cross-fading and still same issue. Another note is that it is intermittent so a song that it failed on will not necessarily happen the next time you play the play-list. So it seems that Rhythmbox has an issue at least in Ubuntu.
Thank you.

Here Ryhthmbox 2.96 on Ubuntu 12.04

When playing numbers after each other (from Music library, other cases not tested) it is starting each number on endposition of previous listening.

In more words:
Here sometimes Rhythmbox seems to skip numbers, but after experience this sometimes i guess it starts number were they finished the last time. So, when a whole set of numbers were finished on the end, what's normal when you play a album, the next time each number is start on last stopmoment, thus starts on the end. But it reaches of course direct the end, and move on to the next number. So it's skipping many number before it meets a number that's was not played ever, or only partly.

I have also experienced this problem. When I try to go to a middle point in the song, Rhythmbox crashes.

It happens to me too. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Rhythmbox skips some specific songs. First I thought the files were corrupted but then I tried to run these files on VLC and they ran perfectly. I wonder if there is a workaround for this bug
