Upgradation worked fine for me though. I used the launchpad repo. Take a look at this article on <a href="http://ubuntumanual.org/posts/175/upgrade-to-open-office-3-1-in-ubuntu-jaunty-intrepid-hardy">upgrading to openoffice 3.1 in ubuntu</a>. It worked for me.

I installed the update from Open Office PPA. It should work. :-)
