Bug Description

Binary package hint: virtualbox-ose

Using Ubuntu 9.04, virutalbox-ose 2.1.4-dfsg-1ubuntu3.

Currently, virtualbox-ose has virtualbox-ose-source as a "recommends". I believe this is incorrect as virtualbox-ose *needs* the source package to be installed to provide the necessary kernel modules.

I know that recommended packages are installed automatically (though I seem to have a problem with that... different issue), but this should be changed to be technically correct and to avoid confusion.

The reason why this is not done is, that you might want to use virtualbox-ose to manage containers and disk images only, without the possibility to run them.
Then, not having to install virtualbox-ose-source (plus the DKMS "overhead") is not required.

Ubuntu tends to install recommened packages now (depending on the tool you're using).

I'm leaving this bug open for discussion, especially since such a dependency appears to make more sense for virtualbox-ose-guest-utils after all, which could depend on virtualbox-ose-guest-source.

That explanation makes sense. Sounds perfect for recommends.
