Bug Description

It's almost worrying to have a simple dialog box with a progress bar being my source of information for a backup process that takes half a day. Something like the screenshot from Ubuntu's software update program would be nice. Basically a terminal-like area where it shows the output of duplicity, or something along those lines. It could be hidden by default, but available for those who want more info on what's happening. Screenshot of what I'm talking about is attached.

That's a good idea, but it'd be hard to limit duplicity's spew. More than likely, we'd have to determine what messages to show.

Can you give me an example of what kind of information would be useful? More than likely, it would just be a list of files backed up so far. Is that what you're looking for? It's true that the 'currently backing up this file' message goes by pretty fast.

I guess maybe this is really two issues. One is knowing which files are currently being backed up. For example, at one point I saw it backing up a file with a name like 10974195 for a while. Being able to see the full path somehow would have explained what it was.

The other is more psychological in nature I think. I just feel antsy about not seeing more feedback from such a long running process. I might just be overly paranoid.

I would agree with this request - more feedback about what's going on would be comforting and the update-manager provides a reasonable example to follow. Note that I think that it just shows you everything - apt outputs, scripts outputs, errors etc.... I think you could either just do this and echo duplicity's output, or just show a list of all the files that have been done so far; either would be better than nothing.

Fixed in trunk with a 'details' expander that shows a list of the files touched so far.
