Bug Description

Binary package hint: vncserver

I'm trying to connect from client ubuntu 9.0 to a server running 9.04 using VNC
The connection is ok and I can see the remote desktop. The pointer move correctly but all the desktop is frozen in the client plateform.
Against, on the server's screen, I can see all actions from client (move, close, execute...)
But I would like to see that on my local machine whithout watching the server's display ;-)

I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 in french version.

Congratulations for your work Ubuntu is very fine and maybe the best os platform!
Best Regards

I'm experiencing the same problem on a german version of ubunto 9.04. Before the update everything was working fine. Now I'm experiencing the same problem either connecting from a macbook pro (desktop sharing, chickenVNC) or from my windows machines (using ultra vnc)
Has anyone hints. I've tried almost all possible settings and the screen doesn't refresh. You see the mouse moving but the desktop doesn't react
Thanks

I've also duplicated this issue on my own network. Ubuntu 9.04 32bit running on a simple HP laptop and using Macbook Pro OSX 10.5 to remote to the Linux machine. I can watch it from across the room and see it responding as normal but if I watch the local VNC window it's a static image, as if it's frozen. Quite an interesting bug. Now we need someone smart to fix it!

jjericho is right. The mouse clicks are actually doing something on the server but the client screen does not refresh.

I was able to reproduce this connecting to Ubuntu 9.04 from Windows XP using either RealVNC or TightVNC clients.

I have these options set in vino preferences: Allow client to control, do not ask for confirmation, require password. The other options are at their default.

Changed in vnc (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed

I have probilly the same problem. I can make connection and can see the desktop. The mouse moves on de desktopsreen but the screen don't refresh. It accepts de commands from the mouse and the keyboard. When i close the viewer and start it up again the screen has changed. I am new and don't have experience with ubuntu. For me the following solution works. I only have the problem when i boot up the ubuntu machine without a monitor. When i connect a monitor VNC works well. I now boot with a standard monitor and after booting i disconnect the monitor. I think for a lot op people this can be a solution. I use ubuntu 9 and on the viewer XP pro with real VNC
