IBM T23: resuming from sleep, display is blank or switched to VGA output

Bug Description

After resuming an IBM T23 (2647) laptop from sleep mode, (the "Fn-F4" kind) the display is usually blank. Pressing Fn-F7 a couple of times (the key combo that toggles between LCD / ext. VGA connector / both) brings the picture back on the LCD.

This is on the premise that the machine went to sleep in either "LCD" or "LCD+VGA" mode (it's not easy to tell which is on unless you have a monitor connected), and thus should wake up in the same state.

This doesn't happen every time you resume the machine, but approx. 80% of the time.

I believe this is fixed in edgy. Have to check that later, but I think it shows the screensaver unlocking prompt after resume, and I don't need to press Fn-F7 anymore.

indeed, this is fixed for me.

duh, it isn't. Sometimes I need to press Fn-F7, sometimes I don't.

no, it is not fixed - here I have Edgy on T23, and problem still here, same symptoms as on Dapper

what I noticed (but not confirmed yet) - it usually happens when it stays in suspend mode for rather longer period. I will try to play more with this problem if I had a time.

no, I second that, it's not fixed. I am running Xubuntu Edgy on T23 (Model: 2647) and the problem is still there. However I can't say it has something to do with time. Sometimes even after a few minutes sleep my display is on the external screen.

This bug is not fixed, I just got today a new (secondhand) T23 too, and the same problem happens to me too with latest Feisty.

This bug remains unfixed and occurs to me on my Thinkpad X30 as well. Maybe it should be moved to the correct forum group (not xserver-xorg-video-savage) for proper addressing?

USB-devices - regardless whether they were plugged in or not at the time of suspend - are no longer recognized when the system wakes up again. This worked flawlessly with Edgy Eft; after installing Feisty Fawn a few weeks ago, it never has worked.

I cn confirm the same problem. Again, on X30 with Kubuntu Feisty. While going into hibernate a large number of messages regarding usb are shown. On resume, no usb devices work until reboot. Same problem does not happen with suspend.

I apologize. I should specify that it is only the usb problem in the last post, and not the original bug which is a problem. The screen returns - slowly, but with no problems. If I could, I would delee my last post.

This still seems to be a problem in gutsy. For me pressing Fn+F3 (the combo to turn off the display) and then pressing just the Fn key seems to wake up the display. It seems to happen every time. I haven't tried using an external display to see if it is being turned on or not.

I'm seeing this for IBM x series as well. using Ubuntu 9.10. Switching back and forth b/t cmd line and gui doesn't help.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. My apologies as I should not have marked this Invalid. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Maverick Meerkat. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
