no UI for im-switch

Bug Description

I installed a fresh Ubuntu Jaunty.

I have SCIM installed for some reason (default?), and the scim configuration appears in the Preferences menu.

However, I did not find out how to enable SCIM so that it would be active in my en_US.UTF-8 locale.

I know there is im-switch, but

 - It is not configurable from the Preferences menu
 - I could not get it to turn on SCIM anyway, the only option seems to be default (and default-something)

I sure could inspect the im-switch configuration files and session setup scripts to find out if one of the options really should turn on scim (and it perhaps does not work because it has non-standard hotkeys on Ubuntu) but I guess this should be easier than that.

Is this bug reproducible with the latest Lucid packages ?
Thanks in advance.

Hello

I am currently not using Ubuntu so I cannot comment on the current state.

The im-switch program (which is being phased out) used to be the only
tool which would reasonably allow to set up the input method for user
and system-wide default input method.

I think there is some control panel which allows for user settings now.

Also this whole issue is moot once im-switch is phased out in Ubuntu.

Thanks
