Bug Description

Binary package hint: system-config-printer

The following issue can be reproduced since upgraded to Jaunty:

When a document is printed, system-config-printer-applet appears with a notification area icon. However, when printing is complete, the icon does not disappear. Moreover, the 'Hide' right-click menu option is useless, because it doesn't work.

On Hardy and Intrepid, the icon correctly disappeared automatically when there were no more documents in the printer queue, and the Hide option worked, too. Now on Jaunty the correct behaviour is broken.

The bug #151360 reported the same issue (icon doesn't autohide) which was fixed one year and a half ago. However, the Hide menu option worked before and it doesn't work now, so I decided to open a new bugreport instead of re-open the older one.

I face the same issue: Sometimes the icon automatically disappears, sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, the hide command does absolutely nothing.

Is there anybody using the HPLIP service?

I have the same problem in Lucid. After printing, the icon becomes transparent and remains visible. Hiding doesn't work.

@Ricardo Pérez López: I'm not using HPLIP. It is installed though, since it's recommended by ubuntu-desktop.

Do you still have this problem in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS or higher?

I don't have the problem anymore in Lucid. The icon now goes away after printing is complete. Feel free to reopen if you can reproduce it.
