Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

I installed Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 and my Samsung SyncMaster 793MB was not detected. The only resolutions I got to choose from were 640x480 and 800x600. Editing xorg.conf by hand is too complicated for me. I've attached the manual for the monitor.

I've reinstalled Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 where I configured my monitor with displayconfig-gtk, but it's no longer available in Jaunty Jackalope.

The monitor is not detected not only in Ubuntu, but in other distributions as well. When I installed Debian and restarted the computer, the screen turned black. All I could see was a green square with "Hz?" in it.

In Ubuntu Hardy Heron, Intrepid Ibex and Jaunty Jackalope the desktop shows up. Before Hardy Heron was released, the same had been happening as in Debian.

I've posted a new version of the -nvidia driver to our xorg-edgers PPA,
would you mind testing it either on Jaunty or Karmic and see if it
resolves this bug?

Hello Bryce,

I installed the new drivers on Jaunty. Here's what I did:

I installed Jaunty updated it, then I added xorg-edgers PPA to my sources.list. I saw some updates and installed them. When I restarted my computer, the screen turned black and "Hz?" appeared on the screen. I couldn't even install the new drivers.

I reinstalled Jaunty, updated it, added xorg-edgers PPA and installed the new nvidia drivers without installing the updates first.
When I restarted the computer, the screen turned black and again "Hz?" appeared.

When I installed Hardy Heron, I first configured the monitor and then installed proprietary drivers. Worked well.

Now I've reinstalled Hardy Heron and installed the proprietary drivers without configuring the monitor first. Again the screen turned black and "Hz?" appeared.
