Bug Description

I installed ubuntu9.04 (later I tried i386,x64,kubuntu , liveCD and DVD, and the bug remained), with my lenovo thinkpad T400 switchable graphic card enabled, os detectable yes, and all work fine. Only sometimes system use internal GPU, sometime use ATI, cause the find hardware driver sometimes report ati driver not installed, sometimes no driver detected.
But after I installed the restrict driver for ati, or I direct download the latest 9.4 driver from amd and install it (yeah, I tried many times, about reinstall my *bnutu tens of times) and enable it and reboot, Xwindow can't start, screen display something( sorry my english is poor I can't exactly describe it , look like screen crashed) no cli, no CTRL_ALT_F1. I also tried safe mode auto fix X, after autofix the screen turned 3 times which I think xwindow restart 3 time and remain blank screen for ever. Also safe mode cli remove fglrx*, none of them works , have to reinstall.
Until finally, I figured out what happened, then I go to BIOS ,disable switchable graphic card, disable os detectable, It works fine.

BTW, I tried Mandriva 2009.1 too, do not like ubuntu , I have to enable os detectable to yes to make it start to install ,otherwise it just remain rebooting after splash screen for ever.

Hi lixin-boanchina,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

I have the same problem, except that in my case it the BIOS was already set to the internal graphics card.

X seems to restart 3 times, there is some image corruption at the top of the screen (the rest of the screen stays black), and then everything hangs.

Let me know if you need more logs.

I've posted a new version of the -fglrx driver to our xorg-edgers PPA,
would you mind testing it either on Jaunty or Karmic and see if it
resolves this bug?

Get fglrx 8.620 here:
