Bug Description

Binary package hint: electricsheep

As stated by http://www.electricsheep.org:

"We are losing our hosting for the v2.6 server. All users should upgrade to v2.7. "

and

"Because the 2.6 server is being shut down, we are only distributing 2.7 clients. Although they are still in beta, they have been tested well and we recommend them to all users, both new and old. "

So, being as v2.6 is going to be shut down, I think 2.7b11 or later should be packaged and released as the recommended version for all active Ubuntu versions. I'd hate to see this screensaver die (or lapse for that matter), It's one of my favorites and I'm sure many other users would appreciate it.

electricsheep started receving loads of bogus sheeps to prompt the update...

to those who want to wait the ubuntu electrisheep 2.7, without being flooded and keeping their old sheep meanwhile, i suggest to:

1-delete the bogus sheeps
2-check how much space is filled by the remaining sheeps
3-gksudo gedit /usr/share/applications/screensavers/electricsheep.desktop
4-modify this line:

Exec=electricsheep --root 1 --zoom 1

to

Exec=electricsheep --root 1 --zoom 1 --max-megabytes numberofmegabytesofcurrentsheeps

this should stop all future downloads

forgot to mention: the sheeps are saved in ~/.sheep (is a hidden directory)

Dear maintainer,
please upgrade this package! You cannot loose anything. First, this is no-risk package -- it's a screensaver, nothing critical. Second, it doesn't work currently. It doesn't work for anyone and won't start working again. Hosting for datafiles disappeared and won't come back. By upgrading this package you won't brake anything and you can't make non-working application more non-working. Please package current version and let users enjoy their sheeps again.

Two months have gone and there are no comments from maintainer? This package should have been updated a long time ago because electricsheep is easily the most beautiful screensaver on any platform.

Hi,

Debian has 2.7~b12+svn20090708-1, so perhaps we could sync/merge it from there.

Until this gets updated (since its the same version still in 9.10), I was able to get electricsheep and flam3 from debian here :http://packages.debian.org/sid/electricsheep

This ppa: https://launchpad.net/~khashayar/+archive/builder has been posted somewhere within comments on electricsheep's website to Linux client instructions, and the electricsheep from that ppa seems to be working for me.

What do we need to do to get this package into Ubuntu? Debian has the current version, but Ubuntu is obsolete.

Same problem here. This package is useless.

for me it was not so easy to install the debian/sid version because there are dependencies. I had to update:

fontconfig-config (2.8.0-2)
libfontconfig1 (2.8.0-2)
flam3 (2.7.19+svn20090813-1)
electricsheep (2.7~b12+svn20091224-1)

Now it works.
