Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions:

* Do you have Adobe Flash installed on your system? The package is called flashplugin-installer
* Does other Flash-based sites such as Youtube work properly?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

Changed in firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

I have Shockwave 9.0 r999 installed and have tried installing version 10 of adobe flash several times and ubuntu says that it is installed. Youtube works and so does a few other sites. Some sites try to run the video but there seems to be a loop in the run process and it doesnt fully start

you probably installed flash 9 at some points in your profile.

run find ~/.mozilla | grep libflash

and remove those files to use the ones installed by the packaging system.

run

strace -f -eopen firefox 2>&1 | grep libflashp

what do you get?

Firefox opens and when I go to the plugin listings everything is still enabled. The video still do not play. I am completely new to ubuntu and firefox. I have been a lifelong windows and IE person.

I have attached a screenshot of what the page looks like when it is done. If I disable the shockwave plugin the black video screen just stays grey and says "general error".

i didnt ask for a screenshot, but the output you get on the console where you run the command i gave you. ensure that you closed all firefox before doing that.

I hate to say this but I am a noob when it come to this. I did close all firefox windows before I put the line in the terminal. When I ran the code it opened up a firefox window and did nothing else. When I closed firefox then the terminal then went back to the prompt. I am not sure how to run the "open" command you listed.

Sorry.

you log out ... then log in ... then open a terminal (from accessories menu) and run the command:

strace -f -eopen firefox 2>&1 | grep libflashp

now firefox will open ... you open the page about:plugins (type that in the URL bar); once the plugins are displayed there you look what was written on the terminal and paste it here ;).

Thank you for putting the instructions perfectly.

The following file types are enabled under flash files.

Application/x-shockwave-flash - Adobe Flash Movie - .swf
application/futuresplash - FutureSplash movie - .spl

There were also DivX, QuickTime Plug-in 7.2.0, VLC, and Vindows Media Player Plug-in 10 listings. I did not know if you needed all of that information also.
