Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I was translating in Launchpad while listinening to music with rhythmbox and "chatting" (I only launched the app) by using emesene. When a popup came up, the sound suddenly turned out in clickings, snappings and cracklings. After having stopped the music for at least 1 minute and having reported the error via Rhythmbox tool, the sound became music.

Same here and not only with emesene notifications; it is happening with pidgin and gajim notifications too.
It was happening in both Lucyd and Maverick distributions. The difference is those creepy noises don't become music no matter how much time or songs passed. As long as i can change the sound system in pidgin and gajim, rhythmbox does not provide a way to configure sound settings (unexpected for a music player, also).

@cablop Not necessarily - it could also have a sound driver component,
but as you haven't provided any hardware information (please file a
new bug report using `ubuntu-bug alsa-base'), we don't know.

It is happening now with no im open. So probably it is a problem just in the sound-player>alsa>pulseaudio line...
