Bug Description

If mouse keys accessibility featured is turned on for the keyboard, activating the numpad's regular behavior through num lock has no effect and the numpad simply becomes totally unusable for neither of the tasks of controlling the cursor nor writing.

Using Ubuntu Januty Jackalope 9.04
Linux lordmetroid-stationary 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:57:59 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

Hi Nicklas, thank you for taking the time to report this bug, and for helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug report did not come with an associated package, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. (You can learn more about how to find the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.) I have classified this as a bug in xorg.

For future reference, you might be interested to know that a lot of applications have bug-reporting functionality built into them. This is typically accessible via the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the relevant application. (You can learn more about this feature at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.)

I can confirm this bug for xorg 1:7.4~5ubuntu18 and GNOME 2.26.1 on a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop running Ubuntu 9.04 with Linux kernel 2.6.28-12-generic.

Hi again, Nicklas. I just realized that my system is handling this differently from the way you described, and that my previous confirmation was probably a mistake. You said:

For me, the numpad continues to control the cursor just fine when Num Lock is on. It's true that there is no way make the numpad print numbers while Mouse Keys is enabled (even with Num Lock on), but this is likely an intended behavior rather than a bug. Would you please check that the numpad really becomes nonfunctional on your system when Num Lock and Mouse Keys are both enabled? When you report back, please also include the version of xorg that you're using. I'm setting the status of this bug to Incomplete in the meantime.

You are right, the pesudo mouse works whether or not the num lock is activated.

In case anyone wants to repro this bug, the functionality referred to above can be activated using the checkbox "Preferences::Keyboard::Mouse Keys::Pointer Can be controlled using the keypad".

@Nicklas, can you please attach sw / hw data to the bug report by running the command:
apport-collect 371282

Also include the output of the commands "dmesg", "cat /var/lib/acpi-support/*-*", "find /dev/input" and "lsusb -v". Thanks.

I think I was wrong, I mistook the absence of function for the num pad cause there is a small delay before the mouse starts moving so it only seems that it doesn't work.
