Bug Description

Using the daily AMD64 build dated 26 March '06 on a Acer Ferrari 4005.

Using the

Option "MonitorLayout" "LVDS,CRT"
(Ref: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-driver-ati/+bug/22985)
Gets the display to work.

However, despite 1680x1050 being the only resolution specified in xorg.conf, the screen refuses to display beyond 640x480. In the screen resolution selection screen, it only lists 640x480, and the refresh rate is locked on a large negative number, like -69324.

Downloading and installing the latest fglrx driver package allows the proper resolution to be displayed.

I had to add these lines to my xorg.conf to get it to get the right resolution.

The problem seems to be that the default ubuntu install doesn't add other screen resolutions in xorg.conf.

I could understand if the other resolutions were not added during the install, but the problem is that even after setting 1680x1050 to be the only resolution available, it refuses to use this resolution.

Does adding the "MetaModes" line to your xorg.conf produce the correct results? If not, can you attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log to this bug report?

Hey Tormod,

Sory for my late answer, yes you can close this ticket because it's
difficult for me to give you some more informations about this problem,
because there is a long time I changed my computer and i have nouw an
ATI x1600, for the ATI x1600 and Ubuntu 7.04 i can say that it worked,
by installing the fglrx drivers.

Thank you for your follow up and your very good work.
