Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

First of all this bug showed up after Jaunty Alpha 2.
If you have multiple CD devices such as one CD-Rom or DVD-Rom and a CD-RW, inserting a non-empty media to CD-RW makes nautilus crash. Desktop icons are vanishing, too. This bug occures if there are multiple CD devices. If there is just one CD-RW everything is OK. Also, if you use a non-empty media, again there is no problem.

Here is a stack trace:

We suspected from Brasero and removed those packages:

brasero
libbrasero-media0

This fixed the bug.
If you need further information we will glad to help you.

Same story, here.

Installed Jaunty 32 bit on my desktop PC with one DVD-ROM and one CD-RW. Whenever I insert a non-blank CD into the CD-RW tray, I lose all icons on the desktop and cannot start the file manager. (Apparently, Nautilus crashes in the background.)

Uninstalling the packages "brasero", "libbrasero-media0" and restarting the computer seems to have resolved the problem. I installed the penultimate version of "brasero" and "libbrasero-media0" from "Intrepid Backports" to check, and saw that they worked a treat.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

There is good news on this issue. It appears that the brasero developer has already identified and resolved the problem in the upcoming version of v.2.26.1:

Accordingly, I have updated the packages "brasero" and "libbrasero-media0" from the repository "proposed" yesterday, and observed that with this update the problem is gone. And today, it seems to have found its way into the regular "jaunty-updates".

So, long story short, we can consider that the brasero-nautilus conflict has been solved and this bug report can be closed. Thanks again.
