Same problem here, Kodak M1033. Worked 'out the box' with Hardy but Karmic gives the behaviour described in the bug description above.

Is this bug reproducible with the latest Lucid packages ?
Thanks in advance.

This is still a problem on Lucid. When I plug in the camera I get the same "Error initializing camera: -60: Could not lock the device" error dialog box, two instances of the dialog box that asks what to do with the camera, and the camera does not appear to be mounted on the desktop. If I say to open F-Spot in the topmost dialog box, then F-Spot is able to talk to the camera and download pictures despite the camera not being mounted.

/var/log/syslog
/var/log/dmesg

Thanks

I attached the relevant lines of the log files requested by Fabio.

I'm not sure whether this should be filed against storage or nautilus.

Hello kevin.
you wrote: Error initializing camera: -60: Could not lock the device
then i'm oriented to a missed module in the kernel.
So please attach the entire file that i request, because the problem can be on others lines, so i can confirm the bug and the triagers can analize it.
Regards
:)Fabio

Here is a workaround. (Works for Kodak M883.)

1. Dismiss the error message "Error -60: unable to...lock device."
2. Cancel the dialogs that offer to open f-spot.
3. Right-click the two camera icons on the desktop and choose 'unmount.'
4. Open f-spot, and import photos. The camera will be available as a source.

Comment: Ubuntu should connect the camera, but not mount its filesystems. if the camera is connect, but the filesystems are not mounted, f-spot can import photos normally. Just guessing, but I think f-spot mounts the filesystems on demand.

On oneiric the behavior is still the same as what I described in my post #9 above. Still the -60 dialog box plus two other dialog boxes about how to open the camera. Although now the default applciation is Shotwell instead of F-Spot. Thanks.
