when nm-applet quits it's space on the notification area isn't recovered

Bug Description

using network-manager-gnome (0.6.1-0ubuntu2).

After I do a killall nm-applet on a terminal, my notification area looks like the screenshot attached.

This looks like a gnome-panel bug -- the notification area increases in size and then when it decreases in size is doesn't move back to the right again.
