Can't add HP Printer P1006 plugin

Printer configuration won't add plugin for HP Laserjet P1006. When adding a new printer it detects the P1006, states that a plugin is required. Then I clicked on the install plugin button. I typed in my password and everything there is fine, but it doesn't download and install the plugin. Tried several times -- same results.

I'm using Xubuntu XFCE 4.6 (based on Ubuntu 9.04).

Which version of system-config-printer is installed?

Please execute the following command, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 370451

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Thanks!

Sorry, but at this point I've uninstalled Xubuntu and have installed Linux
Mint 7, which uses the same Ubuntu repositories. I had the same problem
there, but it was fixed about two weeks ago. Whether the fix came from Mint
or not, I don't know, but I assumed at the time that this was done upstream
by Ubuntu. You might want to write to the developers there and ask:
