Bug Description

I am unable to use any of the VT-x virtualization functionality on my Toshiba Qosmio without a complete system freeze. This includes VirtualBox and KVM.

I had reported this here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virtualbox-ose/+bug/347487

But have since realized that the problem lies with toshiba_acpi. When this module is blacklisted, I can load KVM and boot virtual guest without problem. When loaded the same complete freeze occurs.

The dmesg and lspci are included in the aforementioned bug report.

My Tecra A8 affected too.
BIOS version: 3.50 (latest)

When starting virtualbox or virtualbox-ose virtual machine, jaunty and karmic freeze.
When inserting kvm-intel module, jaunty and karmic freeze.

Logs don't tell anything.
Now, toshiba_acpi added to blacklist, and vt-x working both kvm and virtualbox(-ose).

Thanks for the bug report.

This problem almost certainly does lie in the Linux kernel. You were correct to subscribe the linux package. Hopefuly Leann can help get this issue triaged there. I'm going to unsubscribe the kvm userspace for now. Thanks!

Hi PearZoo,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 370307

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
