Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nv

Xserver complains about something on the card and refuses to start altogether.

This, unfortunately, means the installer would not start.

Once the system installed the low graphics mode is available.

This seems to be somewhat system specific.

The card does not work with nvidia nor noveau, and does work out of the box when plugged into a K8 board. Perhaps not AGP 1x compatible?

It all the drivers complain about something being zero - framebuffer in the case of nv and noveau, some PCI resource in the case of the three available nvidia drivers.

What you are seeing is different. For you no driver loads, and you probably need an updated intel driver for that device.

For me the nv (or nvidia) driver loads but fails to drive the card.

The fix for bug 385658 redoes how card detection works with -nv and may solve this bug. Please test Karmic-beta or newer and verify if it does.

I don't have the card at hand so I cannot easily re-test.

However, the card is not of some hybrid type ad it is detected correctly, the X driver just fails to initialize it on some hardware.
