When updating from ubuntu 8.10 to 9.04, if merge option is selected for menu.lst an error is displayed when installing the new kernel:

After that, in the dpkg reconfigure process, if the option "keep current file" is selected the installation seems to finish ok and menu.lst must be updated manually.
