Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

On certain websites, (anecdotally podcast.ubuntu-uk.org, facebook, several blogs, ubuntu/kubuntu wikis) Firefox crashes with a SIGSEGV. I tried reinstalling it to no avail, and also disabling add-ons. However, selecting the menu to switch it off just caused another segfault.

Many bad Firefox behaviors are in fact caused by one of the many third-party 'themes', 'extensions' and 'plugins'. These will go away with a new profile - that is, when Firefox is restored to default settings and without any extensions and themes.
Please follow these instructions and try that site with a new profile:

I tried it with an empty profile, to a certain degree of success but it still segfaults a lot.

Could you please try this?
sudo force_start=1 /etc/init.d/apport restart

Then do whatever you've been doing in Firefox to generate the crash. It should open a new bug. Please reference this bug # in that new report.
