Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

Hello,

Sorry my english, but I'll do my best.

Today Pidgin showed me 84 new emails, but it wasn't true. I had trouble with connection and each time my pc had connect on web, Pidgin increased the counter.

I suppose that it must just refresh the current amount of mail, not increase it.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/pidgin
Package: pidgin 1:2.5.5-1ubuntu8
ProcEnviron:
 PATH=(custom, user)
 LANG=pt_BR.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: pidgin
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-11-generic i686

I have noticed this as well. The issue is that pidgin increments the number of new e-mails/messages when it reconnects to a service.

To reproduce this:

Add a service to pidgin (msn/gmail/yahoo)
Make sure you have "New Mail Notifications" checked for the service.
Make sure you have some new emails in the service.
Drop the connection and then reconnect it (you can unplug your nic)
The new mail notifications will double instead of remaining at the true value of new email in your account/accounts.

summary: - Each network's reconnection, Pidgin reads new emails (msn live), but
- increases old value instead just refresh it.
+ When pidgin reconnects to an account with mail notifications it
+ increments new mail notification instead of refreshing.

well, I think so. Now, when network drops down pidgin disconnects and cleans up the contact list... exactly how this should be.
