Bug Description

The gtk-recordmydesktop save dialogue breaks conventions, misleading users. It needs a bit of a redesign.

The way it looks now it makes users believe that:
"When attempting to save a recorded video recordmydesktop uses the last typed in path and filename instead of the one entered."(quote from the original bug report)

That is what I thought, too. But what is really going on is that gtk-recordmydesktop saves the recording automatically. So it expects the user to press "save as" and input a filename before starting the recording. This is not like the other programs do it and therefore stumps the user. It needs either to temporary save and only save to a user selected place with save as when the user wants to save, or it needs a file preselection box like the other HIG conform programs.

Ah, I did not realize that this was the case. Thanks, Wolfgang Kufner. At the same time, that just makes this a usability bug. The method for this is complete backwards compared with how the rest of the Gnome desktop functions. There are 2 plausible solutions that I can see. 1. change the "Save As" button to contain a box for naming the screencast and place it at the very top of the application interface or 2. have gtk-recordmydesktop pop up with a regular "Save As" dialog where you can choose a file name/location at that time.

Yes, it definitely is a usability bug.I have set the status to confirmed. Should have done so when I originally commented.
I have also updated the bug description.

As to how exactly a better design should look:
*A "Save As" pop up could quickly get annoying.
*The program currently _does_ things right, it just _looks_ wrong. Currently the user can set a name and then record take after take to that name and it automatically numbers the takes. That is convenient. Especially since it does not have a pause function. Btw, maybe it should have a pause function?

It has a pause function. Right clicking the tray icon. :-)
